Getting Ready with Love and Laughter

When we arrived at the cozy room where Sara and Bethany were preparing for their big day, the energy was infectious. The couple had decided to do their own hair and makeup, a choice that added a deeply personal and intimate touch to the morning. The room was filled with the scent of fresh coffee, soft music playing in the background, and the sound of laughter as they helped each other with their preparations.

Sara’s steady hands carefully applied Bethany’s eyeliner while Bethany teased Sara about her slightly crooked bow tie. The playful banter between them set the tone for the day—lighthearted, loving, and filled with joy. It was a moment that showcased their unique connection, and we were thrilled to capture every second. Doing their own hair and makeup not only saved time and money but also allowed them to focus on each other, creating memories that were just as special as the ceremony itself.

While they got ready, we took the opportunity to photograph the little details that made their day uniquely theirs. Bethany’s dress, an elegant piece with delicate lace accents, was draped over a charming wooden chair, while Sara’s tailored suit was neatly hung beside it. Their vow books, adorned with handwritten notes, rested on a table alongside their rings, a small bottle of Bethany’s favorite perfume, and a pair of vintage earrings that had been passed down through Sara’s family. These details told their story, adding depth and texture to the visual narrative of their day.

Outside, the animal farm on the property added an unexpected layer of charm. Chickens roamed freely, clucking and pecking at the ground, while a curious emu watched us with keen interest. The playful energy of the animals mirrored Sara and Bethany’s own excitement, creating a whimsical start to what would be a truly unforgettable day.

A Ceremony to Remember

Lisa from Northwind Nuptials met us at the parking lot, and together we ventured to a secluded spot for the ceremony. I have worked with Lisa several times and she is in my opinion, the best officiant for an Olympic National Park Elopement! The trek was an adventure in itself, with narrow dirt roads and breathtaking views at every turn. Despite the slight nerves about the drive, Sara and Bethany’s excitement never waned.

The ceremony took place in a clearing surrounded by towering evergreens, with the Olympic Mountains serving as a majestic backdrop. The setting was nothing short of magical, with the sounds of birdsong and the rustle of leaves adding to the serene atmosphere. Sunlight filtered through the trees, casting dappled patterns on the ground and creating a dreamlike ambiance that seemed almost otherworldly.

As Lisa began the ceremony, her warm and eloquent words immediately set the tone. She had taken the time to get to know Sara and Bethany, crafting a ceremony that was deeply personal and reflective of their love story. Her storytelling brought laughter and tears in equal measure, weaving in anecdotes and heartfelt reflections that resonated with everyone present.

When it came time for the vows, Sara spoke first. Her words were a heartfelt recounting of their journey together, filled with humor, honesty, and emotion. She described how they met, the moments that brought them closer, and how she had never imagined finding a love as deep and true as the one she shared with Bethany. Her voice wavered as she spoke of her gratitude for Bethany’s unwavering support and love, and by the time Bethany reached out to dab the tears from Sara’s eyes, there wasn’t a dry eye in the clearing.

Bethany’s vows were equally moving. She spoke of feeling truly seen and cherished by Sara, of finding a partner who celebrated her individuality while offering unwavering support. Her words painted a picture of a love that was not only passionate but also deeply rooted in mutual respect and admiration. She shared stories of their adventures together, highlighting the small moments that had shaped their bond. As they exchanged rings and shared their first kiss as a married couple, the joy on their faces was indescribable. The clearing erupted into cheers, and the couple’s embrace seemed to hold a lifetime of promises.

The Awe-Inspiring Drive to Obstruction Point

After the preparations, we embarked on the scenic drive to Obstruction Point. The journey took us along winding roads, through dense forests, and past cascading waterfalls. As we climbed higher, the views became more dramatic, with snow-capped peaks rising majestically against the clear blue sky. The excitement in the car was palpable, with Sara and Bethany marveling at the beauty of the landscape.

Side note, of all the places to have your OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK Elopement, Obstruction Point is my personal favorite!

We made a brief stop at Hurricane Ridge, one of the park’s most iconic spots. This breathtaking area offers panoramic vistas of the Olympic Mountains and lush, forested valleys below. Over 3 million visitors explore Olympic National Park each year, and Hurricane Ridge remains a favorite destination, even after the tragic fire that damaged its visitor center in 2023. Despite the loss of the building, the natural beauty of the area continues to draw visitors from around the world.

As we continued our ascent, the road narrowed, winding around sharp curves with steep drop-offs that added a sense of adventure to the drive. Every turn revealed a new perspective of the park’s awe-inspiring beauty. From cascading streams cutting through verdant valleys to the occasional glimpse of wildlife, the drive was as much a part of the experience as the destination itself.

For those planning their own elopement or wedding in the park, a special use permit is required. The Olympic National Park website provides all the details you’ll need to make your day as seamless as possible.

Capturing the Magic

Post-ceremony, we explored the surrounding area to capture more moments of Sara and Bethany’s joy. From spinning on hilltops to walking hand-in-hand through alpine meadows, their happiness was infectious. The scenery added a dreamlike quality to the photos and video, with dramatic mountain peaks, vibrant wildflowers, and the occasional deer making a cameo. Each shot captured the essence of their relationship—playful, loving, and deeply connected.
One of the most enchanting moments came as they stood on a hilltop, the wind catching Bethany’s dress and Sara’s tie. The sweeping landscape behind them provided a perfect backdrop for a moment that felt cinematic in its beauty. They laughed and danced, their movements as carefree as the breeze that surrounded them.

Adventures in the Forest and Beach

The next leg of our journey took us to the lush forests and rugged beaches near Salt Creek Recreation Area. Here, twilight vibes and intimate close-ups highlighted their deep connection. Towering trees created a canopy overhead, their branches filtering the golden light and casting a warm glow over the couple. They balanced on logs, picked wild huckleberries, and danced along the shoreline as waves crashed behind them. Each scene felt like it belonged in a fairytale, with Sara and Bethany at the center of it all.

Even the rain couldn’t dampen their spirits. As the first drops began to fall, they simply grabbed a shared umbrella and continued their adventure, laughing and embracing the moment. The gentle sound of raindrops mingled with their laughter, creating an atmosphere of pure joy and spontaneity. Their love shone through in every frame, proving that the weather could never overshadow their happiness.

An Epic Sunset at Lake Crescent

We ended the day at Lake Crescent, where moody clouds and mist created a dreamy backdrop. The lake’s calm waters reflected the dramatic skies above, creating a stunning mirror-like effect that added depth and beauty to every shot. Sara and Bethany’s playful energy shone through as they danced on the beach, tossed leaves into the air, and marveled at the friendly deer that wandered by. Each moment was filled with laughter and wonder, as if the world had paused just for them.

The day culminated on a dock with the lodge in the background. As they stood together, holding hands and gazing out at the lake, it was clear that this moment was the perfect ending to their perfect day. The soft glow of the setting sun bathed them in golden light, and their smiles spoke volumes about the happiness they felt.

In a final, magical touch, the clearing near the dock was visited by a family of deer. A mother doe and her two fawns walked gracefully through the area, their presence adding an almost mystical element to the scene. It was as if nature itself had come to celebrate Sara and Bethany’s union, providing a memory that would stay with them forever.
