The Ultimate Guide to Eloping
From Booking to Printing Your Photos
Congratulations on Your Engagement!
Step 1: Figuring Out What’s Most Important to You
- Do we care more about the location, the photographer, or the date?
- Do we want to include guests, or keep it just us?
- Are we looking for an adventure-filled day or something more relaxed?
- Glacier National Park: Best from June to September for accessibility, though winter offers serene, snow-covered landscapes.
- Yosemite National Park: Peak waterfalls in April-May, golden autumn hues in October.
- Alaska: Stunning from late May to early September, with winter elopements featuring Northern Lights.
- Olympic National Park: Lush greenery in summer, misty solitude in winter.
Step 2: Start Planning (And Make It Fun!)
- Consider the Best Time of Day: Sunrise and sunset offer the most beautiful lighting and fewer crowds at scenic locations.
- Leave Room for Adventure: If you’re hiking, driving to multiple locations, or adding activities, be sure to build in extra time.
- Prepare for the Unexpected: Nature is unpredictable! Have a backup plan in case of weather changes, road closures, or other surprises.
Step 3: Choosing Your Elopement Activities
- Hiking to a Secluded Ceremony Spot – Perfect for adventure-loving couples who want epic views.
- Paddleboarding or Canoeing on a Lake – A peaceful and romantic way to enjoy nature.
- Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise – For a breathtaking and unique experience.
- Helicopter Tour to a Glacier or Remote Mountain Peak – Make your elopement feel cinematic.
- Stargazing & Camping Under the Night Sky – Extend your elopement into an overnight adventure.
- Jeep or ATV Ride to an Off-Road Destination – Explore a rugged, scenic location.
Step 4: Deciding on Guests and Special Events
- Guest Count: Keep it small for an intimate feel.
- Ceremony Location: Some outdoor locations have guest restrictions.
- Live Streaming: Consider a video call for those who can’t attend in person.
Step 5: Booking Vendors & Finalizing Details
- Officiant: If needed, we can recommend officiants.
- Florals: Bouquets, floral crowns, or even floral installations.
- Hair & Makeup: Professional styling ensures you look your best and feel confident all day.
- Attire: What you wear should reflect the location and season—flowy fabrics for warm weather, layered looks for winter elopements.
- Private Chef or Catered Meal: A wonderful way to celebrate after your ceremony.
- Adventure Guides: If you’re planning a hiking, kayaking, or climbing elopement, having an expert ensures safety and the best experience.
Step 6: Planning Your Travel & Accommodations
- Cozy Cabins or Lodges – Perfect for mountain elopements.
- Luxury Resorts – If you want a relaxing honeymoon experience built in.
- Glamping Tents or Airstreams – A mix of adventure and comfort.
- Backcountry Camping – For an immersive nature experience.
Step 7: Relax and Enjoy the Countdown!
- Pack Early: Don’t wait until the last minute! Make a checklist of everything you need, including attire, accessories, rings, travel documents, and personal keepsakes.
- Test and Break in Your Gear: If you’re hiking or engaging in an adventurous activity, break in your shoes and test any equipment beforehand.
- Confirm with Vendors: A week or two before your elopement, touch base with your photographer, officiant, and any other vendors to confirm logistics and timing.
- Review Permits & Paperwork: Ensure you have all required permits, marriage licenses, and travel documents.
- Plan a Pre-Elopement Adventure: Take a short trip, hike, or explore your destination to get comfortable before your big day.
- Write (or Finalize) Your Vows: Take time to reflect and put your emotions into words. Writing your vows early allows you to be fully present in the moment during your ceremony.
- Unplug and Be Present: Consider taking a break from social media and distractions so you can fully enjoy this intimate, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
- Spend Time Reflecting: Whether it’s journaling, meditating, or simply sharing a quiet moment together, take time to appreciate your journey and the commitment you’re about to make.
Step 8: Your Elopement Day
- If you’re having a first look, this is the perfect way to release any nervous energy and have a private, intimate moment before your ceremony.
- If you’re skipping the first look, don’t worry—those emotions will still flood in once you see each other at your ceremony location!
Step 9: Post Elopement
Now that your elopement day is over, what comes next? Just because the vows have been exchanged and the adventure has concluded doesn’t mean the experience is over! Here’s what you can expect in the days and months following your elopement.
One of the most exciting post-elopement moments is receiving your first sneak peeks! Within 1-3 days, you will receive a photo teaser gallery with 10-20 images, allowing you to relive the magic and share the joy with family and friends. If you opted for videography, a video teaser will arrive in about two weeks, capturing the emotion and essence of your day in a short, beautifully edited clip.
Your full gallery of professionally edited images will be delivered within two months. If you also booked a videographer, your final wedding film will be completed within the same timeframe. These images and videos are yours to keep forever—moments frozen in time that will bring you back to your incredible day whenever you look at them.
