Gaby & Will
An Alaska Adventure Elopement
Gaby and Will’s Alaska Glacier Elopement:
A Tale of Love and Adventure
We began our journey at the stunning Alyeska Lodge (link here), a hidden gem nestled in Girdwood. The lodge offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including the Chugach Range, Mount Alyeska, and Max’s Mountain. We took the tram up the hill—a magical experience in itself—and as we ascended above the treetops, the view of Turnagain Arm stretching into the Pacific Ocean unfolded before us. This massive waterway, more than just a river, is a unique Alaskan wonder.
At the tram’s summit, we were greeted by a moody fog that added a touch of mystery to the dramatic valleys below and the towering peaks around us. After exploring several picturesque spots, we warmed up inside the summit building, where a cozy bar provided much-needed respite from the July chill. Gaby, despite the cold, braved the weather with a smile.

The Big Day: A Clear View of Denali
The couple’s A-frame cabin served as the perfect backdrop as they prepared for their adventure. Will got ready upstairs, while Gaby stayed downstairs, creating a sweet anticipation for their first look. The cabin’s design allowed us to capture candid shots of Gaby from the balcony as Will eagerly awaited their moment.
The Helicopter Adventure
Exploring the Glacier
Post-ceremony, we captured stunning photos of the newlyweds against the glacial backdrop. The sunny weather made the snow glisten, and the warm temperatures (thanks to the sun’s reflection on the snow) added to the day’s magic.
Our next stop was a cliffside meadow with jaw-dropping views of glaciers, boulders, and mountain peaks. The couple enjoyed champagne and cake provided by the tour company, sharing laughs and even a moment with a curious bird that landed on Will’s hand.

Planning Your Alaska Helicopter Elopement
-
Spring (April to May): As Alaska awakens from winter, you’ll see blooming wildflowers, melting snow, and wildlife emerging. Days are getting longer, providing plenty of light for your adventure. Spring also offers fewer tourists, making it a quieter and more peaceful time to elope.
-
Summer (June to August): Long daylight hours, often referred to as the midnight sun, make summer ideal for outdoor adventures. The vibrant greenery, mild weather, and abundance of wildlife create a stunning backdrop. However, summer is also peak tourist season, so plan ahead to secure your preferred vendors and locations.
-
Fall (September): Fall in Alaska is brief but spectacular. The tundra transforms into a patchwork of fiery reds, oranges, and yellows, creating an unforgettable setting. Cooler temperatures and fewer visitors make this an appealing option for those seeking solitude.
-
Winter (November to March): Winter offers a magical, snow-covered wonderland with the added bonus of potential Northern Lights displays. However, daylight hours are much shorter, especially in December and January, with some areas experiencing only a few hours of light. It’s essential to plan your schedule carefully to make the most of the available daylight.
What to Expect on the Big Day
- Embrace the Adventure: Things may not go exactly as planned, but that’s part of the charm of an Alaska elopement.
- Pack Light: Helicopters have weight limits, so bring only what you truly need.
- Hire an Experienced Photographer: They’ll know how to capture the unique lighting and landscapes of Alaska.
- Consider a Post-Elopement Celebration: Whether it’s a cozy dinner in Anchorage or a wildlife tour, celebrate your marriage in a way that reflects your adventurous spirit.
